Thanks for this update. I heard a radio report this weekend about the evolutionary origins of morning sickness. One theory states that back in the days of early humans and plant foraging much of the food humans ingested was somewhat toxic. As a result, it was BETTER for a pregant woman to avoid those foods and/or throw them up in order to protect the fetus. Aren’t we lucky nowadays to have summer fresh fruit, whole grain breads and the bounties of organic vegetable gardens? Eat up moms-to-be! And keep those meals small and frequent.

Greetings,

I did a Bible search for the word “quickening” and found the Greek word translated as it used only when referring to a Spiritual giving of life, not to birth and life in the womb. If I missed something, please correct me. The OT word translated as quicken simply means to give life, and is used in a massive variety of cases. But when translated as “quicken” it seems to also only refer to a Spiritual giving of life. I will do more research, but please do expound on what you mean.

Research has emerged (must find source) that tell us half of women in their 20s do not know which time in their cycle is when they could most likely become pregnant. Hmmmmm.…… And half of pregnancies are unplanned. I wonder if there is a unscientific correlation between these sets of data. What I am trying to say is thank you to Ann and Robin for your work in shedding light on how our bodies work. Keep it up and we will keep on reading!

Nice video link. Very informative blog.
I agree that sperm credentials are very important. However, the timing of the acceptance of the sperm , credentialed or otherwise (as in being able to support the resulting child), and the frequency of acceptances (as in choosing the number of children one contributes to the world population) are also important for the maintenance of our 3rd rock from the sun.

Addition to Small Rant: Resist the temptation to watch A Baby Story on TLC! It does not portray birth accurately, as they condense 15 hours of labor into 30 minutes and play up the drama so that you will be on the edge of your seat! In the majority of women, birth is not that dangerous.

This is a really interesting post… I love the discussion about at what point conception occurs! Personally, I like the Biblical notion of quickening. Even though this varies from woman to woman and can range anywhere from 16 to 22 weeks gestation, it seems like the most natural theory.

Wow! This whole website is great — love the pictures and the links. I can immediately tell there is a lot of information here. It might be helpful to have the diagram/chart posted on the side so someone can reference it at any point, but so that it does not have to be put up every time. That way, more room for graphics more appeal!
